goodbye
she says
to the broken bottle
on the sidewalk
goodbye to
the spiderweb in the corner
that she kept meaning to clean
goodbye to books and bagels,
toys and trees
goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
to christmas lights and silver bells
to candy corn and love
goodbye to ants
to turtles, to rocks
goodbye to thanksgiving turkey
goodbye to
the easter bunny's long white ears
goodbye
she sings
to the merry robin
to the pancake pidgeon in the street
goodbye sugar
goodbye death
goodbye calenders and clocks,
seconds and hours,
goodbye breath,
goodbye bacon in the morning,
goodbye chocolate.
goodbye
she whispers
and the lights go out.
